I am not going to say it's a perfect system, I just believe that currently the rates are higher than what the standard will be in the near future. I will admit that you could have gotten great deals with Points in the past if you were diligent in your searches or if, for example, the hotel did not update from standard to peak for whatever reason, but the prices on cash which were already being auto updated, skyrocketed. I believe that the prices will even out and come down after this summer. The reason why you are seeing this big of an increase in prices is more due to the fact that people are. This is also, due to the new system, impacting the Points redemption rates. Now that people are not really afraid of the pandemic anymore and covid is not as big of an issue, people that have been holed up for 2 years are looking to spend some money and travel. Please do bear in mind that current levels of business have surpassed the levels of business in 2019 (pre covid) by 25%. Hyatt, SPG, Hilton would have come first. It 100% sucks that Marriott doesn't have a category system anymore, but I genuinely wouldn't have chosen to be loyal to them for that in the first place. I had to pick a hotel brand for work 2 years ago, and have followed these programs for years before they, and I don't think any of that has really changed. Hilton, Marriott, IHG offer the footprint, but within those Hilton is overall better for redeeming points because of all their promos to earn points (which could end at any time), Marriott is better for benefits, IHG has trailed behind both, but can offer some good redemption opportunities at lower tier properties. Hyatt is still the most valuable points program, with the most valuable top tier status, but also with the smallest footprint. Imo, I don't think the status quo has changed much (since SPG merged with Marriott) Definitely think you're right to use Hilton if you get a lot of mileage out of F&B benefits.Īll hotel programs have been devaluing points for a while (Hilton increased peak, Hyatt has seasonal and some category moves, IHG is dynamic). I'd say that sometimes a different brand may have a better edge case deal for your needs in specific. Believe on Hilton they classify it as a rolling benefit per NIGHT of STAY (Stay = the length of time of your total time there, where night is the actual day by day, fun technicality) so after 3 nights you could have a total discount of like $60, but then Marriott's is a $10 per stay, which if you only were to stay 1 night then I'd say they're comparable for a solo traveler.īut there are other perks like Marriott partners with American Airlines, so if you're a business traveler in a place with only American Airlines, then that could be a possible benefit. ![]() At my property we were doing the choice of points or a $10 F&B credit to guest +1 other each day. Yeah, in a bit of fairness the F&B benefit from Hilton is better on any stay that's at least 2+ nights.
